Natural Gas

Natural Gas Products

The fact that natural gas is one of the cleanest, cheapest and most efficient sources of energy makes it a necessary component of an environmentally friendly economy. Alberta is home to a large natural gas resource base and accounts for just over 80 per cent of the natural gas produced in Canada.

It is estimated that 97 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of recoverable, conventional natural gas is still beneath our feet.

Natural gas is a mixture of hydrocarbons, mainly methane, which is both colourless and odourless. Water, oil, sulphur, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and other impurities may be mixed with the gas when it comes out of the ground.

Alberta produced just over five trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of natural gas per year – enough to heat every Alberta residence for 35 years.
